This position is responsible for the mechanical assembly, test and troubleshooting of Serac machines. The machine assembler will work with the shop manager, engineering and planning to meet on-time completion of production schedules and machine deliveries

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assemble all mechanical aspects of Serac machines as per assembly drawings and/or verbal instructions
  • Fabricate machine components such as spacers, mounting brackets, etc.
  • Install machine pneumatics as specified in machine schematics
  • Follow assembly work instructions and maintain machine checklists
  • Inspect and test machines to ensure product quality and customer requirements and specifications
  • Troubleshoot entire machines with the help of mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Modify machine parts and assemblies as needed, interfacing with the shop manager and engineering for design control reviews prior to approval and implementation of changes
  • Disassemble machines and/or subassemblies that are ready for packing and shipping 
  • Submit weekly time-sheet with accurate documentation of work completed
  • Participate in Kaizen events targeting 5s and continuous improvement activities
  • Maintain housekeeping and organization of workplace
  • Follow all workplace safety standards
  • Follow company policies and procedures
  • Perform all other related duties and responsibilities as assigned


Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Train customers on machine operation and maintenance during factory acceptance run-off 
  • Sporadically work, under-supervision, in various areas of production in response to production demands
  • Occasionally travel to customer sites to install and service machines

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license
  • General computer knowledge (MS office – Word, Excel, Outlook, MFGPRO a plus)
  • 3+ years of experience building and troubleshooting packaging equipment in a low volume, high variety industry
  • 3+ years of experience with power and hand tools (e.g. variety of wrenches, pliers, screw drivers, saws, etc.), fabrication machinery (e.g. drill press, lathe, grinder, etc.), and pneumatic tools
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or general labor industry
  • Previous experience operating material handling equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, gantry cranes, etc.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to read and understand assembly drawings and Bills of Materials
  • Basic understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic schematics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Perform shop mathematics
  • Follow verbal and written work instructions and blue prints
  • Manage multiple projects with flexibility of adapting to changing priorities
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be a team player
  • Must be customer service oriented

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to bend, kneel, walk or sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to reach above head and below knees
  • Ability to climb and work at elevation
  • Exposure to material handling equipment, dust and moderate noise, and use of personal protective equipment depending on scope of work
