Serac Inc., manufacturing packaging machinery in Carol Stream Illinois, is seeking an experienced Electro-Mechanical Assembler. This position is mainly responsible for the electrical and mechanical assembly of electrical control panels and cabinets. The electro-mechanical assembler will also perform machine wiring and assist in machine troubleshooting and start-up as specified per electrical schematics, machine drawings and engineering

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build and wire electrical control panels using point to point wiring
  • Perform machine wiring per machine drawings and/or electrical schematics 
  • Perform mechanical work such as attaching enclosures to a machine, punching holes to cabinets, drilling and tapping holes in machine conveyors, and bending conduit piping, etc. 
  • Assist electrical engineers with machine electrical systems pre-functional testing and start-ups 
  • Submit weekly time-sheet with accurate documentation of work completed
  • Participate in Kaizen events targeting 5s improvement activities
  • Maintain housekeeping and organization of workplace
  • Follow all workplace safety standards
  • Follow company policies and procedures
  • Perform all other related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sporadically work, under-supervision, in various areas of production in response to production demands 
  • Occasionally travel to customer sites for machine star-ups

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license
  • General computer knowledge (MS office – Word, Excel, Outlook, MFGPRO a plus)
  • Electrical licensing a plus
  • Associate’s degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology a plus
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in electrical control panel building
  • 3+ years of experience with power and hand tools (e.g. wire cutters, crimpers, soldering irons, etc.), fabrication machinery (e.g. drill press, lathe, grinder, etc.), and pneumatic tools
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or general labor industry
  • Previous experience operating material handling equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, gantry cranes, etc.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and Bills of Materials
  • Be familiar with electrical control system components (e.g. breakers, disconnect switches, relays, timers, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic schematics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • General math skills
  • Follow verbal and written work instructions and blue prints
  • Manage multiple projects with flexibility of adapting to changing priorities
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be a team player
  • Must be customer service oriented

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to bend, kneel, walk or sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to reach above head and below knees
  • Ability to climb and work at elevation
  • Exposure to material handling equipment, dust and moderate noise, and use of personal protective equipment depending on scope of work

This job starts at $18.00/hr., plus a benefit package which includes 401k, health and dental insurance, and profit sharing.
